Alfred Walker Holinshead Needler (1906-1998), born in Huntsville, Ontario, was key in establishing research for estimating large migratory marine fish populations. He began his career with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans in 1941 and eventually became Deputy Minister. His noteworthy contributions helped promote Canada's participation in the North Atlantic Fisheries Organization.
