Additional Information
Médard Chouart des Groseilliers (1618-1696). Originally from France, Des Groseilliers came to Canada as an explorer and quickly became involved in the fur trade on the Great Lakes. He was instrumental in opening up Lake Superior and Michigan to trading and establishing Jesuit Missionaries, and played a key role in the foundation of the Hudson's Bay Company. His contributions to early Canadian economy played a major role in the development of Western Canada for centuries to come.
CCGS Des Groseilliers went through her first major VLE between 2002-2007. A new bow thruster was installed. Modernization of crew lodging was completed. In 2015 all 3 auxiliary generators were changed. Last update: 15 November 2022.
