Additional Information
The Honourable Major-General George Randolph Pearkes (1888-1984). Born in Watford, England he immigrated to Alberta, where he joined the 5th Battalion Canadian Mounted Rifles during the First World War. During his service he fought in the Battle of Passchendaele, and was awarded the Victoria Cross, the highest military decoration for valour in the Commonwealth. Pearkes' military career continued, as he rose to the rank of Major General, serving in the Second World War, before retiring in 1945. He went on to become equally successful in politics as a Member of Parliament, Minister of National Defence, and later, as Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia.
